2016-2017

About

In 2016, I had the honor of joining Kendra Scott's inaugural Summer Internship Program, which subsequently evolved into a year-long part-time Graphic Design Intern role. Throughout June 2016 - June 2017, I engaged in numerous invaluable experiences, ranging from visiting the print press as they produced their quarterly catalogues to insightful sessions with the legal team, where I gained a comprehensive understanding of brand licensing intricacies. Additionally, I had the opportunity to contribute to the design of ads featured in prominent magazines, such as Marie Claire and Elle Decor.

One of the projects I found particularly rewarding during my tenure at Kendra Scott involved collaborative efforts with senior designers on magazine advertisements. This opportunity afforded me the privilege of collaborating with esteemed publications such as Marie Claire, Elle Decor, Teen Vogue, and various smaller periodicals. Engaging in projects of this caliber, provided me with valuable insights into aspects such as design hierarchy, project specifications, and collaboration with external entities. This experience significantly enhanced my understanding of the industry and progressed my skill set.

Jewelry Tour GIF

The KS Jewelry Tour serves as a platform for corporate employees, and occasionally Kendra herself, to connect with customers nationwide. Traveling in a custom Streamline travel trailer, the tour spans cities from the West Coast to the East Coast. I had the opportunity to create a gif to promote one of the college tours, a project that pushed me beyond my comfort zone. Crafting a complex gif within a tight timeframe challenged me to quickly acquire new skills and successfully contribute to the promotional efforts.

Summer Intern Project

As part of the Summer Internship Program, our cross-departmental team took on the challenge of bringing a theoretical product, watches in this case, through its entire lifecycle at Kendra Scott. In my role as the Marketing Intern, I developed strategies, created collateral, and art directed the product launch. Utilizing my Adobe skills, I also designed the watches, providing a fresh perspective and technical approach.

Collaborating with interns from Pricing, Planning/Allocations, Distribution, and the Product Design team, we priced, planned logistics, sourced materials, and ensured our design aligned with Kendra Scott's brand. The culmination of our efforts was presented to company executives and home office employees at the end of the summer.

Phase One Designs

In the initial phase, our focus was on materials. We opted for white mother-of-pearl, peach illusion (later replaced with brown mother-of-pearl), black mother-of-pearl, and solid black glass for the watch faces. In the next phase, we chose to incorporate additional Kendra-identifying shapes to enhance its distinct branded essence.

The Joyce features the iconic Danielle shape, cherished by Kendra Scott fans. Its unique vertical face shape sets it apart from other watch companies, making it unlike any other timepiece in the market.

Final Fashion Watch Designs

To surprise the internship coordinators, we made the decision to include an additional watch, contrary to their expectations of us working on just one item. Capitalizing on the current trend, we integrated sliders on chains into the design to impart a fashion-forward touch.

Line Lists

During my tenure at Kendra Scott, my primary focus was collaborating with the wholesale department, where I was responsible for preparing various collateral for their team and accounts. This involved creating line lists, social media kits, and email newsletters. For example, I would receive a spreadsheet containing item details such as SKU, dimensions, wholesale and MSRP prices, and color variations for each product. Subsequently, I matched this information with the corresponding product photography and developed the backend of the line list. Given the substantial amount of data transitioning between channels, maintaining a high level of organization was crucial. These line lists were then distributed to both major accounts (such as Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom) and minor accounts (like mom-and-pop boutiques).
